Talking the Walk

by Meria Heller

"Walk your talk." What does that mean? It is a concept that has been taught since the '80s, often meaning "put your money where your mouth is" or "actions speak louder than words" when applied to one's spirituality.

I find it amusing that people are still using that expression, thinking that we have the luxury of time to continue "walking our talk." We have long since moved from that philosophy into the new directive: Talk your walk. It's easy to walk your talk by recycling and being a good human, but another story altogether to actually talk your walk.

What does that mean? It means being brave enough, assured enough in your beliefs and spirit, to actually speak to others about what you know. Spread it around, regardless of what others may think of you. Eliminate being "pious" by right actions, and become a true spiritual warrior by becoming fearless in your beliefs.

Look around the planet. Humans are falling apart at the seams: confusion, fear, murder, killing, droughts, plagues, etc. The time to do the "right thing" is almost over. Unless we can effect true change in consciousness, the human race will race to the finish line: extinction.

Do you speak up against brutality? Crime? Injustice? Antiquated ideals or teachings? This is talking your walk. Standing up for a child being abused, a woman being battered; this is what being a warrior is about. Humans need to be educated about the consequences of their actions.

I commend new parents on their beautiful babies wherever I see them. Why? To assure that they appreciate the gift they have been given, and possibly make that child's experiences more pleasant: awareness. Make people aware of what they truly have in their lives and what a gift all of life is.

The Y2K millennium madness is the least of our problems. The problem, as I see it, is the indifference and non-participation of most humans in the greater whole. We are in this together; we sink or swim together. What happens to one affects the whole.

Many New Agers and teachers concentrate on spirituality, ignoring the rest of what is happening socially, economically, politically, and environmentally to the inhabitants of this planet. This is not being in balance, and as warriors we need to be in balance and educated. We cannot separate ourselves from mass consciousness. We can truly live in this world and not be part of it. We can truly shape-shift and be multidimensional within the whole picture. However, we must be in the game in order to effect change within it.

I am here, there, and everywhere, simultaneously. I am involved in community activities, environmental activities, and "worldly" organizations as well as my spiritual worlds. It is all part of the wholeness of being a being of light.

Many have spoken of the darkness arriving on the planet; the targeted date was narrowed down to August 11, 1999. I say the darkness has been here much longer than that. Look around. Use your true vision. How much darker does it need to get before we are all under the spell of it? When your eyes are closed, you are in the dark, aren't you? Open your eyes. Look around. Get educated; get active. Be fearless. This journey is temporary; make it as good as you can for all involved before leaving for another experience in another form. What you do in form is what you take with you in spirit.

Be wary of your emotions. Do not let them rule your life. Healthy emotions are fine, but when you concentrate on your emotions alone, it will be a distraction from your spiritual self, the true warrior within. Do not overly concern yourself with your own singular life. You aren't in this alone. When you are proud of your talk, your life will improve all on its own.

If you have mastered a particular spiritual skill, talk about it to everyone. If you have a belief system that works, share it; don't hide it! Whoever said religion and politics are taboo subjects was misinformed. Find out what's going on in your world; it is your world too, you know. Be concerned. Have an opinion, and do something about it.

We are coming to a period in human consciousness that has never been before. We will either survive as a species or not, depending on our actions. Remember to talk your walk. You'll be surprised at the results!
