By adding the universal year 1998 (1+9+9+8 =27) to the tenth month of October, we come up with the vibration of 37/1. The 37/1 month is a time for new beginnings. It is a particularly good month for initiating any new projects that require you to pull from your creative (3) and perceptive (7) energies. Take some time this month to reflect on how you can bring more joy and meaning to your work. If you have wanted to begin a new project that you are really passionate about, now is the time to tune in to how you can make it happen.

October 5 Full moon in Aries On October 5, the moon is full in Aries. Moon in Aries asks us to speak out boldly about what we need for emotional fulfillment. The full moon in Aries is calling us to bring full awareness to our needs so that we then can be totally present and authentic with others. Only when we can truly nurture ourselves and honor our own needs for independence, autonomy, and freedom can we truly be in relationship with others.

October 7 Mars enters Virgo Mars moves into Virgo this month on October 7 and will be there until November 27. With Mars in Virgo, we have an opportunity to take care of the details of our lives. Since Mars represents where we assert our will, in Virgo we focus our will on taking care of our daily routines. Where can we be more efficient in our lives? How can we be more organized and attend to the details of our lives?

By making our lives more streamlined at this time, we can free up more energy to be of service to others. For many of us, the daily routines of our lives become so bogged down that we find that we never have time to do the things that really make a difference. With Mars in Virgo, we can streamline, prioritize, and organize our lives so that we can have the time to dedicate our energies to what’s really important.

October 11 Neptune direct in Capricorn Neptune completes its five-month retrograde on October 11 as it goes direct again at 29 degrees Capricorn. During the retrograde period, we had an opportunity to see how deeply connected we are to being guided by spirit. Do you now feel more connected to some form of guidance that informs and gives direction and meaning to your life, or do you still feel that you are drifting on the current of the tides of your life, rudderless, without a direction?

The Neptune retrograde period called us to open ourselves up to receive guidance. Through meditation, imagery work, visualization, journalizing, and breathwork, we can now awaken the sixth chakra between the eyes, the center of intuition. As this center opens, we can become more aware of the subtle energy of Neptune that can give us guidance on our journey.

October 11 Mercury enters Scorpio Mercury will be in the sign of Scorpio from October 11 until November 11. Mercury in Scorpio is like the surgeon’s knife, cutting to the core of a problem and excising it! Use Mercury in Scorpio this month to learn to tell the microscopic truth. Even though telling the truth seems hard and painful sometimes, the side effects of not telling the truth are even worse.

Only when we can truly nurture ourselves and honor our own needs for independence, autonomy, and freedom can we truly be in relationship with others.

If we withhold our truth, we also withhold our love, and eventually shut down our ability to be intimate with others. Mercury in Scorpio calls us to bring to the surface and acknowledge what’s bothering us. Sometimes just the simple act of telling the truth can help us release a tremendous amount of energy that has been suppressed and that has been getting in the way of our being intimate with those that we love.

October 15-19 Mars square Pluto From October 15 through 19, we have an extremely powerful transit of Mars in Virgo squaring Pluto in Sagittarius. When Mars and Pluto are squaring each other, one can expect to experience extremely willful energy not only personally, but collectively as well. On a personal level, this transit can represent a time of great courage and fortitude, a time of applying maximum willpower to accomplish a difficult task.

Collectively, it could represent a battle of extremely willful forces or the containment and right use of will to promote peace. I’m not a predictive astrologer, but I felt it was important to let you know about this powerful transit so that we can join in prayer for the most positive manifestation of these energies.

October 18 Uranus direct in Aquarius Uranus, which has been retrograde since May 17, also goes direct this month on October 18 at 8 degrees Aquarius. Uranus’ retrograde has been a time for each of us to deepen our attunement to the subtle and not-so-subtle energy that is constantly flowing through our bodies. Uranus speaks, in particular, of electromagnetic energy, which in different traditions is described as prana, chi, ki, kundalini, shakti, or life force.

As Uranus progresses through its seven-year transit of the sign Aquarius, we are being awakened to the realization that we are truly energetic beings who are constantly enveloped by a universal energy field that is always available to us. Our job during Uranus’ five-month retrograde has been to see how open we are to receiving this energy.

Breathing and bodywork, in particular, help open up the body so it can handle increased energy without being over-amped. Any of the energetic approaches to the body, such as Reiki, polarity, SHEN, Barbara Brennan’s "Hands of Light" work, craniosacral, pranayama, kundalini, or kriya yoga would all be appropriate methods of exploration at this time.

October 20 New moon in Libra On October 20 at 3:10 a.m. we begin a new moon cycle at 26 degrees Libra. Averaging 29 days, seven hours, and 43 minutes, the lunar cycle represents our emotional evolution or unfoldment throughout the month. The new moon represents a starting point and the beginning of a new phase of our growth.

With the new moon in Libra, we have an opportunity to attune our emotional body with our sense of justice and equality. Renewed interest in relationships and partnerships, speaking out about the injustice we see, and creating more beauty, harmony, and balance in our lives are all areas to focus on in this month.

October 23 Sun enters Scorpio The sun moves into Scorpio on October 23 at 7:59 a.m. The Scorpio process corresponds to the beginning of an inward-turning period in nature when outer things gradually decay and life returns to the earth. The external forms have died back to leave nothing but bare trees and bushes above the exhausted earth, from which life can flourish anew. The Scorpio principle involves the descent into darkness to transform the ego and to emerge as a powerful bearer of light. Our job in Scorpio is to be role models for others in the highest use of passion and power.

October 24 Venus enters Scorpio Venus moves into the sign of Scorpio on October 24 and will be there until November 17. Venus in Scorpio is a very powerful placement, and calls us to pay attention to the deepest parts of who we are. The reason the sign of Scorpio is so often maligned is that it represents the process of purification of what psychologists call the shadow. These are the powerful emotions that most people find very difficult to deal with: rage and other forms of intense anger, jealously, sexual intensity, and grief.

The Scorpio process demands that we dive into the center of this intensity and embrace it as a vital part of our humanness. For many, though, there is great fear that if they truly embrace their intensity, they will surely die. As a result, many people choose to repress their emotional intensity, their sexuality, and their vitality.

Venus in Scorpio is a call to integrate these "taboo" areas into the heart of who we are. Use this time to access how open you feel to expressing the Scorpio force in your relationships. Are you suppressing your passion or vitality because of restrictive messages you received during childhood? Do you fear that if you were to express the intensity of your emotions you would "blow away" your loved ones? Venus in Scorpio is a time to be a spelunker of your emotional depths, to explore how you can access and release more aliveness and vitality in your relationships with others.

October 30-November 1 Venus square Uranus Venus in Scorpio has an enlivening square to Uranus in Aquarius from October 30 until November 1. Venus/Uranus provides an opportunity for opening our heart chakras by literally running high voltage through the heart. This is represented physically and etherically through the process of channeling universal energy (Uranus) through the heart chakra (Venus) as in Reiki. Allow Venus/Uranus to help you break free from any restrictions you may be feeling in your emotional expression.
