Florida Fires No Match for Universal Wheel

by Meria Heller

A lot of you readers are familiar with my work as a spiritual teacher and the Universal Medicine Wheel. I thank you for your support on my articles, especially "Behold the Children" (The New Times, May 1998; send SASE for a reprint of this or any other article desired). That article described my work with children in my hometown of Scottsdale, Arizona's Desert Center, teaching them how to walk in a sacred manner on the earth. This story is just as remarkable.

In early June, I started getting "bugged" about taking a trip to Florida. There was no logical reason for me to go to Florida, yet it kept coming at me. Although I have family in Florida, I had seen them in January and didn't feel like going from one hot place to another in June. It culminated with receiving a free ticket round trip to Orlando, and a free limousine ride to the airport! I didn't need a hammer to hit me on the head; something or someone wanted me in Florida.

I booked a trip, packed my bags, alerted my family, and there I was. Upon my arrival at the airport, I found out that many roads were closed due to the fires that had been burning in Florida since May. Luckily, my sister was able to get through and pick me up. We drove through a lot of smoke and side fires to get to her home on the beach at Cape Canaveral.

I had been following the fires online for a few weeks, and it was surprising to me how little the people that lived there knew of the fires. Many of them busied themselves with watching Jerry Springer and Judge Judy on TV, yet they did not know about the fires breathing down their necks just around the corner! As a teacher of the Universal Medicine Wheel, I know the importance of paying close attention to nature.

Nature does not intend to harm us with its perfectly natural changes; we need to be smart enough to know when to get out of the way. This fire engulfed three large populated counties: Brevard, Volusia, and Flagler. At last count, it had burned a total of 487,000 acres! Firefighters from 44 states were there helping to contain the fires. I have met and worked with fire energy before, and I quickly realized why I had received the ticket to Florida.

My teacher, Sun Bear, had a specialty: bringing rain to areas of drought. Many countries called him to bring rain when they were experiencing drought, and rain he brought! I have always known and taught that students tend to inherit the gifts of their teachers.

The first day I arrived, I went down to the beach. I drew a wheel in the sand (see photo) and prayed heavily. I prayed to the thunder beings to bring rain. Some people on the beach laughed at me since the news predicted no rains until September. They needed four to five inches to make a difference. However, I continued to pray; then I left the beach. Twenty minutes later it rained.

The news reported that "spiritual leader" (?) Pat Robertson announced that the cause of the fires was the wrath of God due to the Rainbow Parade held earlier by the gay population, yet I saw many churches burning. Hmmmmmm...

No matter how much news I watched, no one was asking anyone to pray for rain. Finally, a few days after my arrival, the governor, having known of the rain that trickled down, made a statement. The governor acknowledged the rain and said, "Thank you for praying. There is a God; keep praying." He realized that the rain was not enough to make a difference. The next day, I went to the beach once again, made two wheels, and prayed. Again, it rained.

I did take a break out of the day and went into the ocean for a swim, where I immediately stepped full-footed on a stingray. It engulfed my entire foot, yet it did not sting me. No one could understand how that could possibly happen. I told them that every living thing could recognize another living thing that lives in a sacred manner; thus, I was not stung. This happened to me not just once, but twice! No need for photo identification or fingerprints, just my cellular imprints read in seconds by another living being.

On Friday, July 3, it was announced that the county of Flagler had to evacuate; the fires were out of control. I went down to the beach, made three wheels in the sand, prayed to the ocean to allow its waters to rise into the sky and meet with the thunder beings and create all the rain necessary to put the fires out. I told the Mother that she had created enough ash to clean her rivers and ocean and that it was time to bring the rain. I instinctively knew without a doubt that when the tide swallowed up the wheels, the rain would come.

I left the beach and watched the dark black rain clouds form off the ocean. I told the people, "It will rain, and heavily. In three days it will be announced that the fires are contained. The rain will continue for five days." Then the miracle came: a heavy downpour of rain — lots and lots of rain! In hours, people's pools were overflowing; the fires were doused. The lightning set off a few small fires, but it was nothing the fabulous firemen couldn't handle.

One of my Reiki students had a home in Volusia County about to be engulfed by the surrounding fires. I told her to throw together a quick wheel, get in it, pray, and offer some water to the earth as a gift. She did so, and in minutes she felt more powerful than she ever had and was surprised by the attendance of animals, bugs, and birds around the perimeter of her wheel. Her wheel coincided with mine and helped bring the rain.

Three days later, the governor appeared on television and announced that the fire was contained; people could return to their homes. This was on July 5. What a fitting way to celebrate the Fourth of July: instead of eye candy (fireworks), 44 states came together for a common cause, the real blessing and meaning of celebrating our beautiful country on her birthday. Lots of people donated time, money, and gifts to the firefighters and the victims of the fires. True love was being outpoured by every state in the union.

When the heavy rain began, I turned my radio on. It immediately sang the words to a song I had never heard before: "Did you ever wonder what it's like to be a rainmaker?" I chuckled and realized the universe was giving me a wonderful message. Without any thought for myself, I did what I intuitively knew was correct. I listened to the "voice" that sent me to Florida, staying in total trust that there was a reason of which I was as yet unaware.

Regardless of other humans laughing at my wheels, I continued to build them. I am a daughter of Mother Earth. She loves me as she does all her children. There was nothing supernatural in what I was doing. Once upon a time, it was the most natural thing humans did. We have forgotten the sacred ways and the fact that they work. The elementals are always willing to work with us if we approach them in a sacred manner.

As an aside, I later found out through a friend that a Native American woman had told her that she "had sensed the arrival of a very powerful spirit being in Florida last week; now I know it was your friend and teacher Meria." I met a wonderful woman working with grids and labyrinths on the beach. She thanked me for bringing the wheels to the beach, saying she had been praying for a sign and knew I was it.

Dear readers, as the Mother continues to go through her changes, do not fear. They are very natural. It's just that there are more people on the earth during this particular time in her shift. She means us no harm. She is only cleansing herself as she does every cycle. Yes, we have contributed somewhat to the conditions of this earth, but only to the surface skin. Mother Earth can and is repairing that damage.

Stay connected to nature; listen to the news. Pray for people everywhere, not just where you live. What happens in one part of the planet affects us all. Start living in a sacred manner. Change begins with one person. Become conscious of your actions and deeds where nature is involved. Get back to communing with All That Is. It is very natural. Together we can make a difference and co-create a positive, beautiful, healthy future for all living things. Our children, and the next seven generations, depend on it.
