People have asked what I think. Usually I stay out of this sort of thing, preferring to let people duke it out among themselves. However, because this is part of a much bigger issue, I decided to jump into the fray this time and talk about it here. First, I will speak to the particular situation happening and then to the broader aspects. Lee Carroll and Kryon have been "checked out" by many people of high discernment across the country, including people from four different countries on behalf of the United Nations where they recently spoke. I have spent some time with Lee and his wife Jan and found both of them to be coming from a place of high integrity and haven't sensed the least bit of evil in them or in Kryon. To the contrary, I found them to be very kind and loving. When I evaluate someone, I use the old adage, "By their works shall you know them." To my knowledge, their works have generated spiritual growth, love, healings, and peace. I don't know the psychic who has started all of this, although I've been told some people think she has integrity and that she probably believes what she is telling us. I must say it is interesting that she bases all of her criticisms and interpretations on less than a third of Kryon's published material. I also find it interesting that she interprets the material by putting her own spin on what she claims is actually being said, pointing out that most of us have missed the true meaning because of Kryon's evil ability to trick us. I notice that her works seem to be spawning negativity, pain, distrust, fear, and self-doubt. Because she says that even those of the highest discernment are being dupedeven people of long-standing in this communitya situation is being set up where we are told we can't trust our own feelings or inner knowingness. Instead, we are to believe her regardless of our own opinions or experiences. I find this insidious and very damaging. This is the sort of talk from which cults are born. I also find it curious that this woman has seemingly set herself up as the only one who has the truth in this situation while the rest of us are fools. I have always felt that if you honestly believe someone is a fake or "just in it for the money," or even "evil" (which I find to be a highly charged and debatable term), the best response to make is to withdraw your support from that person or group. A frontal attack only serves to bring attention to and feed what you say you don't want. Over the years I have seen many teachers come and go. Those who seem to have harmful or greedy motivations don't last very long in this community because people aren't drawn to them for any length of time and don't support them long-term. They fall of their own weight. This is especially true in Seattle. This is a very hot kitchen and many have been burned trying to concoct a selfish brew. I've seen some of the nicest people attacked in this community, usually in the name of goodness and light! Once a person becomes a public figure it is not uncommon for one or more people to want to bring the person down, usually because of jealousy and ego. Putting oneself in the public arena means you must be willing to face criticism, judgement, lies, and the dredging up of any past mistakes or failings. If a person can't handle this, he or she won't last very long in the limelight! It's a pity this is the way it is because many fine people hold themselves back because they don't want to face the onslaught of criticism. This is my bottom line on Kr-on, Lee Carroll, or any other teacher you need to evaluate: trust your own discernment. Not every teacher or teaching is for everyone. If their teachings aren't your cup of tea or don't ring true for you, move on. On the other hand, if you find their material brings you closer to living life spiritually and lovingly, helps you participate in life at a higher level, then take what works and leave what doesn't. Like most of you, I have been exposed to a myriad of teachers and teachings. Because of my work at this newspaper, I have come into contact with far more variety than I ever would have otherwise. There is no way I could personally use or follow every teaching or technique I have written, read about, or published articles on. I don't personally follow any one teacher or teaching. I am very eclecticone of the things that has made me well-suited to the work I do. I have been willing to present information for you to decide about for yourselves and honestly trust that each of you knows what will or won't work for you. This situation is no different. Be willing to make your own decision. Here's the broader issue I see. Have you noticed how people seem to thrive on negativity? Ears perk up when there is bad news. It gets crowded around the water cooler when juicy gossip begins. Ratings are higher for shows about violence, death, and destruction than they are for ones about the miracles in life. I honestly believe there are people in our community who want to see bad things happen on this planet. These people want the earth to shift on her axis; they want deadly hurricanes and floods; they welcome the fall of our economy. Why is this? This month the Quartus Newsletter mentions that Quartus founder John Price was part of a panel discussion on National Public Radio where a noted psychologist said that most people in this world are afraid of peace because it means change, and that people need conflict in life in order to have something to overcome! For some reason, many people are drama addicts. If life flows easily, relationships blossom, money and goods are easy to acquire, these folks are bored. They don't feel alive unless they are in a hornet's nest. They would never admit this, of course, not even to themselves. If you know one, though, you have witnessed this and know what I'm talking about. These are the people who always have to stir things up just when it looks like life is settling down and they usually do it under the auspices of trying to help or make things better for someone else. I guess it comes from a rotten childhood or a prior lifetime; I don't know. Why do some people see the glass as half empty when others see it as half full? Not long ago I was speaking with someone who was outraged because the mainstream continues to push drugs rather than natural healing techniques. Although it is true that society has a long way to go in this regard, I pointed out that I have seen numerous programs on television showing diet, vitamins, and other natural therapies in a positive light. Twenty years ago I couldn't have walked into Pay Less Drugstore and bought homeopathic and naturopathic remedies over the counter. Today, I can. That is progress. But some don't want toor can'tsee this. It is true that there is still war on this planet. But the world's two greatest superpowers have become at peace with one another. This is progress. To hear some people, though, you'd think we've made no strides toward world peace at all. I could go on and on, but the gist is that things are getting better on this planet if we're willing to see it. Sure there are many things that need fixing and some things have gotten worse. This world is one which evolves. It grows and changes. In the process of doing that some things get better while others get worse. It's the way life works here. Something critical which seems to be overlooked by the half-emptiers is that we're not in charge of what is going on anyway! Spirit (God) is all there is. Nothing exists outside of Spirit. If anything could exist outside Spirit, then it wouldn't be Spirit, it would be something else. Believe it or not, the great What Is is taking care of everything here. I have full faith in What Is' ability to heal, to nurture, to evolve this planet in the highest way possible. What's also true is that all of this is done through us. We must cooperate with life if it is to express through us as clearly and wonderfully as it can. All we need to do is align ourselves with Spirit on a daily basis through prayer, meditation, and remembering the presence of Spiritthen do those things we are guided to do. We won't be guided to hurt other people or attack them. We'll be guided to share ouselves and our talents with others, to live in the noblest and most loving manner possible for the greater good of all concerned. If you find yourself drawn to negativity, unrest, and drama, sit with yourself about it for awhile. What place does it serve in your life? If you honestly like living in that state of mind and disarray, accept it wholeheartedly, quit complaining, and enjoy it! If you don't like it, there are a multitude of ways to change your outlook. Find one and pursue it.Life is pretty much what we make it. Do you want to choose chaos, mean-spiritedness, and smallness or peace, generosity, and magnificence? Decide because it's a choice you get to make every day! |
