By adding the universal year 2003, (2+0+0+3) = 5, to the 5th month of May, we come up with the vibration of 10/1. The 10/1 month is a time for new beginnings. It is a particularly good month for initiating any new projects that require you to pull from your creative energies. Take some time this month to reflect on how you can bring more joy and meaning to your work. If you have wanted to begin a new project that you are really passionate about, now is the time to tune into how you can make it happen. May 1: Be in Your Body. The new moon is in Taurus this month. A new moon occurs when the sun and moon are in the same sign and signifies the joining of solar and lunar energies. With the new moon in Taurus, what nurtures us this month is getting more grounded and in touch with the natural world. Digging in the garden or any outdoor activity where you really experience being in your body is very healing and nurturing at this time. Attunement to the earth through Native American or indigenous cultures rituals is also a way of getting grounded this month. May 1-3: Focus on Unconditional Love. Venus in Aries is in a positive relationship with Neptune in Aquarius from May 1-3. Venus/Neptune aspects put the focus on getting in touch with your desires and needs for physical merging and unconditional loving in your relationships. If you are not really expressing and getting your needs met in these areas, then these powerful energies can turn inward and manifest as over-idealism and unreasonable expectations of your relationship. Its a good time to get clear on what you need, whether you are in an intimate relationship or not. May 1-19: Internalize Your Experience. Mercury retrograde in Taurus is a call for greater impeccability in your life in the areas of speaking, writing, self-expression and following through on your word. For example, many people experience Mercury going retrograde as a time when communication breaks down to the point that they wont do or sign anything. The superstition is that Mercury retrograde is a time to "lay low" and hold any business or communications that have to be done until Mercury goes direct again. In other words, for many people there is ample evidence to substantiate that Mercury retrogrades "foul" things up! It can begin to look like Mercury retrogrades do happen to us! The point of Mercury retrogrades, however, is to teach us that adversity often challenges us to internalize our experience; to deepen our understanding of our own natures so that we can achieve mastery in our lives. Mercury retrograde in Taurus helps you see, through external events, at what level your Mercury function (or throat chakra) is operating. If your communication skills are lacking in any area, this will be more than apparent when Mercury goes retrograde. May 6-8: Tell the Truth. Venus in Aries is in a positive relationship with Pluto in Sagittarius May 6-8. Venus/Pluto asks us to go deeper than our normal patterns of superficial day-to-day communication. In other words, if someone asks "how are you?" you have the opportunity to really tell the truth! Its also a time to re-discover and voice your deepest convictions and values. What do you really care about; what are you passionate about? What needs to be spoken that has been ruminating inside? As you learn to speak your truth (Pluto) with compassion (Venus) you will relieve a lot of steam that might have been building up. May 6-10: Align your Will. Mars in Aquarius is opposite Jupiter in Leo from May 6-10. The opposition is a powerful aspect because it represents the integration of two planets energy in a synergistic way. Mars is the planet of will and Jupiter is the planet representing expansion. Mars/Jupiter asks you to tap into the archetype of the spiritual warrior, putting your will or power (Mars) behind your idealism or vision (Jupiter). The challenge is to not force your crusade, no matter how holy, on others! Use the energy of Mars opposite Jupiter to map out your strategy and game plan. Align your will with divine will and you can be assured of success. May 12-16: Go with the Flow. Mars in Aquarius is at the same degree as Neptune in Aquarius for the next 4 days. With Mars/Neptune energy you are asked to surrender your sense of personal will so that you can be guided by spirit. In other words, you are being invited to "go with the flow." So much of what we learn in this culture has to do with making things happen or using strong will to control and manage our lives. Use the energy of Mars and Neptune to learn how to surrender your attachment to the outcome. When we acknowledge that we are not alone, we can tap into grace and return to being in the flow of life rather than fighting it. May 15: Integrate Higher Consciousness. Neptune in Aquarius goes retrograde for the next five months starting on May 15 until October 23 (when it goes direct again at 10 degrees Aquarius). With Neptune retrograde, we have an opportunity to see how deeply connected we are to being guided by spirit. With Neptune in Aquarius, you have an incredible opportunity to integrate higher consciousness energies into your being, but only if you are able to open up, surrender and ground these new energies. Use this retrograde period and the time before October 23 to really ground your spiritual practice, whether that is through meditation, concentration and visualization, breathing practices, internal martial arts, yoga, tantric sexuality, earth-based ritual, or movement. We are moving into a new era where the focus is on embodied spirituality. In order to fully embody these higher energies, we must create a strong, grounded vehicle that is capable of running increased energy, light and consciousness. May 16: Merge with the Beloved. The Moon is full, and there is a lunar eclipse in Scorpio on May 16. For this month the emphasis is on experiencing a deep and primary bond with loved ones. The full moon in Scorpio calls us to move deeply into our desire for intimate merging with the beloved. The challenge this month is to acknowledge this need to others even though you might feel extremely vulnerable and fear that your beloved might reject or abandon you if you look too needy. The full moon in Scorpio is asking us to communicate to others the depth of who we are and what it is that we need to feel bonded emotionally and physically. May 16-June 10: Love Your Body. With Venus in Taurus, the focus this month is on loving your body and appreciating your sensuality. Often it is difficult to really appreciate and inhabit our bodies because of all the mixed messages we get from our culture. At one point in our history, voluptuous bodies were highly regarded and thin was definitely not in! Now thin is very in, and so are clothes that totally hide our form. We are also given messages about how we should curtail and suppress our sexuality on one hand, but on the other hand we are constantly being bombarded by "sexual" images by the media. Whats a body to do? What you can do this month is be kind to your body. Give your body the gift of massage, a relaxing hot tub, or a great hug session with your beloved or with your friends. Open your heart to loving and accepting your body just the way it is. Find out what sensuality means to you and look at ways you can bring that more in your life. Learning to love our bodies is the fast road to high self-esteem. Make this a month of re-acquainting yourself with your greatest and most supportive friend! May 17-19: Express Your Need for Freedom. Venus in Aries is in a positive relationship with Uranus in Aquarius from May 17-19. With Venus/Uranus the emphasis is on questioning the degree of freedom that exists in your relationships. Venus/Uranus asks us to get in touch with how much freedom we really need in relationship versus how much security we need, which is highlighted when Venus aspects Saturn (May 13-14). Most freedom urges that people experience in relationship are in reaction to the feeling of being trapped or "hemmed in." True freedom can only be created by telling the truth about what you need and by being willing to deal with your own and others feelings of abandonment, alienation and fear. May 21: Connect with Others. The Sun enters the sign of Gemini on May 21. In nature, the seedling is now secure (Taurus) and it can begin to branch out and interconnect with a complex root system (Gemini). The Gemini principle is driven by the compelling need to connect objects with one another to form ever-greater links. Our job in the sign of Gemini is to experience a diversity of sensations, thoughts and encounters so that we can create systems or theories of knowledge that we can then disseminate to others. May 27-June 9: Broaden Your Vision. Jupiter in Leo is in challenging aspect to Neptune in Aquarius from May 27-June 9. This is an interesting combination as both planets are expansive and associated with developing a broader vision. Since Jupiter is in Leo, the sign of the heart, it is an especially good time to go on a vision quest to find out what you are passionate about. In the shamanic tradition, vision quests were opportunities to break out of the mold of everyday thinking (often through fasting or sacred substances) so that a higher vision could be attained of ones purpose. The same outcome can be achieved with this transit by evoking and fostering the imaginal realm. As you bypass the rational mind through drawing, trance work, hypnosis or dream work you can access deeper layers of mind that can bring forth an expanded vision of who you are.
