Starwatch

by James Jarvis

By adding the universal year 2002, (2+0+0+2) = 4, to the 10th month of October, we come up with the vibration of 14/5. The 5 month is a time for synthesizing all of the knowledge and experiences you’ve acquired over the last four months. Look to see what you have been learning and how this information may fit into a larger system of knowledge that you can then disseminate to others. The 5 month also signifies greater participation and possibilities in any media-related business: writing, speaking, teaching, or promotion.

October 2-11 Mercury squares Saturn. With Mercury in Libra/Virgo in a challenging relationship with Saturn in Gemini, you have an opportunity to align your ideas with a definite plan of action. What is the form or specific plan that you can begin implementing that would really contribute to your overall sense of mental wellbeing? Mercury square Saturn is a great time for taking on any project where you need to focus the mind on specific details. The main challenge is to avoid becoming too rigid or too attached to the specific outcome you have in mind.

October 6 New Moon in Libra. On October 6, we begin a new Moon cycle at 13 degrees Libra. With the New Moon in Libra, the focus this month is on nurturing yourself by finding ways to be in harmony with your inner self. With the New Moon in Libra, you have an opportunity to learn to balance your diet, your work and play, and your needs for autonomy and intimate relationships with others.

October 10-November 21 Venus Retrograde. Venus in Scorpio will move in retrograde motion from October 10-November 21. Venus retrograde signals a time to look deeply at what you value. During Venus retrograde, you have an opportunity to remove yourself from the overwhelming and powerful values of the culture so that you can be more objective about what is truly important. Freed from the pressures from family, culture, religion, and society to conform to their values, you have a chance to align your values with your inner self. With Venus retrograde you have an opportunity to reinvent your values so that they are rooted in your own unique experience. Once your values are clarified, the natural inclination is to connect with like-minded souls and share your values with them.

Since the planet Venus is associated with the heart chakra, there is an additional impetus to share your heart with others during this retrograde period by letting down your guard so that you can be truly received and appreciated for who you are. In many ways, the retrograde period asks you to look at how you can be more connected with your deepest, most authentic values.

October 11 Saturn retrograde. Saturn, at 29 degrees Gemini, goes retrograde from October 11 until February 22, 2003. The challenge with Saturn in Gemini is to keep grounded (Saturn) in the face of rapid change (Gemini). Basically, this transit is about taking the time to figure out your game plan for the next year. During Saturn’s retrograde, try to get in touch with the specific, measurable results that would have to be produced in order for you to know that you have reached your goals. This is a time of recommitting yourself to "walking your talk," being truly accountable for your actions, and taking a stand for what you want to manifest.

October 12-31 Mercury Direct in Libra. With Mercury now moving direct (October 6) and once again in the sign of Libra from October 12-31, the emphasis is on coming into balance by drawing on your mental qualities of objectivity and equality. With Mercury in Libra, the challenge is to look at your addiction to being nice, to the way you accommodate the needs of others to the point that you lose yourself. You have an opportunity now to step back and be more objective and detached about what needs to be communicated. The focus now is on communicating what is just, fair, and equitable. With Mercury in Libra, you have the opportunity to speak the truth without fear of what others will think.

October 15 Mars enters Libra. With Mars in Libra from October 15-December 1, your energy and will is focused on creating greater balance in your life. Although the sign of Libra is often depicted as somewhat "wishy-washy," the truth is that Libran energy can be quite strong. Mars in Libra, in particular, is the champion and defender of justice and can be quite bold and outspoken when things become unjust. While Mars is in Libra, you can become the adjudicator or arbitrator of justice in your life, speaking out against any injustice that is pulling you out of balance. This is particularly relevant to personal relationships. Have you gotten out of balance by being so focused on someone else’s needs that you have lost track of what you need for yourself? Do you find that you are giving much more to others than you are receiving? If so, you can use this time to work on creating more egalitarian and just relationships in your life.

October 17-27 Jupiter trines Pluto. Jupiter in Leo is in a flowing relationship with Pluto in Sagittarius from October 17-27. Jupiter/Pluto transits are the fuel for changes in mass consciousness. With the trine between Jupiter and Pluto, you are becoming aware of the need to balance creativity and levity (Leo) with wisdom (Sagittarius). Use this transit to re-examine and re-evaluate your fundamental beliefs. Jupiter/Pluto asks you to transform your beliefs by stepping back to gain a larger perspective.

October 17-29 Mercury aspects Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto. Mercury trines Neptune October 17-18, sextiles Pluto October 22-23, and then trines Uranus October 27-29. With all three outer planets aspecting Mercury, the ruler of all areas of communication, you can expect major breakthroughs in your thinking process this month. Neptune and Uranus both activate your ability to access higher intuitive states, so by being receptive at this time you might receive guidance that can be quite illuminating. Pluto helps you take action on your guidance; Mercury/Pluto aspects are all about speaking your truth powerfully and with conviction.

October 20 Neptune Direct. Neptune completes its five-month retrogradation on October 20 as it goes direct at 8 degrees Aquarius. During the retrograde period, you had an opportunity to see how deeply connected you are to being guided by spirit. Do you now feel more connected to some form of guidance that informs your path and gives direction and meaning to your life or do you still feel you are drifting, rudderless, without direction? The Neptune retrograde period called you to open yourself up to receive guidance. Through meditation, visualization, journaling, and breath work you can now awaken the sixth chakra between the eyes, the center of intuition. As this center opens, you can become more aware of the subtle energy of Neptune that gives you guidance on your journey.

October 20-24 Mars squares Chiron. Mars in Libra is in challenging relationship with Chiron in Capricorn October 20-24. The opportunity with this transit is to see how balanced you are in expressing your power and authority with others. If you are overly accommodating the needs of others, Mars/Chiron asks you to be more assertive and confident in your innate authority. For those who are overly authoritarian and attached to being right, Mars/Chiron asks you to put yourself in others’ shoes for a change and feel what they may be feeling with compassion.

October 21 Full Moon in Aries. On October 21, the moon is full in Aries. Moon in Aries asks you to speak out boldly about what you need for emotional fulfillment. The full Moon in Aries is calling you to bring full awareness to your needs so that you can be present and authentic with others. Only when you can nurture yourself and honor your own needs for independence, autonomy, and freedom can you truly be in relationship with others.

October 23 Sun enters Scorpio. The Sun moves into Scorpio on October 23. The Scorpio process corresponds to the beginning of an inward turning period in nature when outer things gradually decay and life returns to the earth. The external forms have died, leaving nothing but bare trees and bushes above the exhausted earth from which life can flourish anew. The Scorpio principle involves the descent into darkness to transform the ego and to emerge as a powerful bearer of light. Your job in Scorpio is to be a role model for others in the highest use of passion and power.
