Beyond the
Space Needle:
A Parents (Pocket) Guide to Seattle
by Tom Hobson
Sure,
Seattle has a monorail, a childrens museum, and the Space
Needle. Theyre all great things to do with the kids, but
youve done them before, and frankly, the thought of the
crowds and expense are starting to suck the fun right out of
your family trip into the city and youre not even
there yet.
How about something different,
cheaper, and probably much better fodder for fond memories?

A Guide to
Online Prayer Sites
by Terria Fleming
Prayer
is a wonderful resource in a sometimes-troubling world. Prayer
groups have been around ever since the first people came together
to support each other in times of need or in thankfulness and
celebration. Prayer is a mysterious and beautiful phenomenon.
Now prayer groups are flourishing
online. Prayer on a global scale is available to all. All the
barriers of time and distance that once kept groups of people
from praying together or even knowing about each other
are gone. The world is now united in prayer 24/7.

The Walk
by Elke Siller Macartney
For a
couple of years now, I've walked two and a half miles from my
house in a woodsy neighborhood to my office in the center of
my little town.
The walk is lovely for the variety
of scenery: I walk past seasonal gardens in various states of
bloom, a marina, and a small golf course. I quietly utter a respectful
prayer by the Native American cemetery. I walk across a bridge
built over a saltwater channel full of boats and fishing activity,
seals and seabirds. I stroll through a forested park, usually
stopping at a mural painted by local children, designed to stop
the graffiti that used to live there.

The Tao of
Quality
by Michael Armenia
On the recent anniversary of my birth, I was given
a gift by my dear friend, Julie. She handed me a box and told
me that without knowing why, she saw this and thought of me.
I opened the small box and, to my pleasant surprise, I recognized
it as something I consider to be the key to success in business
and in having an enriched life. Inside the box was an extremely
smooth oblong stone with the word "Quality" carved
into it. After sincerely thanking Julie, I told her that "quality"
is the one word that I would choose to represent both what seems
to be lacking in the world today and also a clue to finding it.

StarWatch
by James Jarvis, M.A.
By adding the universal year 2002 (2+0+0+2=4) to
the 8th month of August, we come up with the vibration of 12/3.
The 3 month is a time for tapping into joy through creative self-expression.
What aspect of your creativity wants to come out this month?
Are you a closet painter, writer, dancer, or musician? Is there
something that you are really passionate about that you would
like to share with others but have been holding back? Use this
month to discover your own form of creative expression. Let yourself
be like the child and really get down and play this month!

Searching
for More? Try Yoga!
by Carmen Viola
Going beyond the roles and masks you
wear from day to day or moment to moment, beyond the ego-self,
you discover that your essential nature is pure consciousness,
not the myriad aspects of personality you label as your identity.
When you become so ensnared in the ego-self, your essential nature
struggles to become free, creating disease, a byproduct of the
illusion of control. Some stress the interconnection of
the organs, muscles, and bones that holds the body together
is good. Essentially there are only two options between which
an individual may choose to alleviate disease: activity or rest.

What Acupuncture
Can and Cant Do for You
by Jordan Van Voast,
M.Ac.
In Eastern medicine, body and mind have
long been understood as intimately interconnected. Good health
is a manifestation of smoothly flowing energy (variously described
in different systems as qi, prana, wind, etc.) through the energy
channels that connect the various organs. Each organ has an associated
channel, which primarily affects a particular region of the body,
and is associated with various emotional and spiritual qualities.

The Art of
Surrender
by Heather Ash MacKenzie-Gaudet
Surrender is one of the greatest acts
of courage you can make on your spiritual journey. There is an
art to surrender; it is not the scientific result of a series
of procedures. True surrender brings you beyond the limitations
of your domesticated self, into the wilds of Mystery.
Surrender turns you upside down,
opening your feet to the sky and your head to the earth. Surrender
teaches you to rest your mind in the cradle of the earth, and
to open your feet to the stars. Every part of you becomes receptive.
Your heart opens and fills your mind with grace. The sun shines
like diamonds on the soles of your shoes. Each cell sings a song
of grace and pure presence.

Leo: Laughter
and Love of Life
by Pam Younghans
If you were born between July 22 and August 22,
you probably know that your astrological sign is Leo (see note
on next page regarding dates). When you say, "I am a Leo,"
what you are actually saying is that the sun is in Leo in your
astrological chart, meaning that the sun appeared to be in the
constellation of Leo the Lion at the time of your birth. Leo
is the King or Queen of the Jungle, equally able to roar ferociously
and to play like a young kitten. Whatever Leo does is usually
done in a grand way, for Leo is all about self-expression and
making an impact on the world. With your sun in Leo, your primary
life lessons involve how you choose to express your abundant
enthusiasm and creative energy.

Affirmations
and the Final Destination
by Anne Marie Evers
When I wrote the first edition of my
book Affirmations: Your Passport to Happiness, I had no
idea how often I would be rereading the chapter on death.
As I write this, it has been
only three months since my second husband Roy passed away after
a very short illness. It was a real shock to me, as I had been
doing affirmations for him to get well and be healthy. The first
two days after his passing, I was completely crushed. For that
short time, I felt that I had lost my faith in the power of affirmations.
I felt somehow that God had deserted me. That feeling of not
believing, coupled with the grief of Roy's passing, brought me
to my darkest hour. I felt deserted, abandoned, and completely
confused.

Being Present
with What You Feel
by Arlene Arnold
This morning my body feels heavy. Somewhere within
my body there are tears. There is nothing in my life right now
that would seem to bring on these tears except for my concern
for ones I care about who are going through tough times. It would
be easy to say that this is all about someone else. Then, I wouldnt
have to look at why I have taken this grief into my own body.
However, my body will not let me off the hook. I must acknowledge
and embrace what is there. Otherwise, I will shut down my sensing
and knowing in order to avoid what is affecting me, leaving me
only partially present.

Intuitively
Speaking
by Deborah Ilg
I am sensing a lot of physical change for people
in the areas of either work, home, or relationship this month.
I also feel that the month will be divided into two parts. The
first two weeks, there will be a focus on intuition in regard
to choice, and the last two weeks, the mind will play a bigger
part in bringing balance to choice.
Let me explain: the first two
weeks, we will be moving toward our goals with trust and faith,
knowing it is the right thing to do. That is the intuition at
work perfect! I like that there is movement around what
we sense intuitively, instead of standing in fear not knowing
which way to go. That movement comes from all the work we have
been doing in the area of intuition since the end of last year.
