Whiteley writes The Corporate Shaman like a novel with a detective-style plot. Will the fictive company’s hero realize his fatal flaw of neglecting his people in favor of profits? Will the loyal lieutenants, his department heads, prevail in the face of the dastardly usurper, the accountant Frank Farratt? (Incidentally, the naming of characters in this fable is a clever word exercise: the company’s chief executive is Leon King; his Human Resources manager, who risks her career at PRIMETEC by telling the truth, is Helen Singer; the conservative head of operations who dares to take a new direction is Mark Steed.)

Around the world, and especially in places like Bulgaria, Russia, and China, children are being born with seemingly extraordinary psychic gifts that come at birth and do not disappear. The children do not have to go through rigorous training to claim these gifts, though in some cases they need guidance in how to use them with love. We who are awed by the gifts are then told by these children that the gifts are not what matter. In slightly different ways of sharing the message, these children show us what is important by calling us to answer the following question: "How would you act if you realized that you were an Emissary of Love right now?" This is followed by a mandate to "Begin."

Great metaphysical books have one thing in common:

we let go of our conditioned mind and emotions, offering the
suggestion that life is an opportunity to become awakened to
all that we are now as well as to the unlimited aspects of our
eternal and divine nature.
The excitement and gratification of work,
indivisible from the success of an enterprise, depends upon the
spirit of the people involved, not the "bottom line"
of profits realized. Through the methods of the shaman (the Siberian
word means "one who sees in the dark"), this vitality
and success of a business corporation can be rediscovered, and
that is the message of The Corporate Shaman.
Emissary of Love pulls us into a world of strange happenings, intrigue,
and extraordinary events. Though this novel is based on his experiences,
James Twyman admits that some of the characters and some twists
and turns of the story are fictional. However, the message and
Twyman’s experiences with the psychic children are real.
