Starwatch

by James Jarvis, M.A.

By adding the universal year 2002 (2+0+0+2=4) to the month of February, we come up with the vibration of 6. The 6 month asks us to tune in to how we can be of service to others through expressing the healing power of love. The challenge this month is to learn how to tap into our love of beauty and harmony so that we can come into balance. Take some time this month to work on beautifying your environment. By doing so, you will feel more harmonious and balanced, and others will feel healed solely by being in your space. Try to see yourself as a channel for unconditional love flowing through. As you tap into this love yourself, you will be able to give it to others without feeling burdened or drained.

February 4-18 Jupiter opposite Chiron Jupiter in Cancer is in challenging aspect with Chiron in Capricorn from February 4-18. This transit can help us become aware of how balanced we are between our nurturing instinct and our work instinct. Jupiter is exalted in Cancer and asks us to nurture our inner selves on a deep and primal level. The theme when Jupiter is in Cancer is about creating a greater sense of home, belonging, and connection to our personal center.

In contrast, Chiron in Capricorn asks us to heal our wounds around authority so that we can accept our own authority and move out into the world. Ultimately, there is really no duality or opposition between these two points of view. To really move into the world and accept our own authority, we need to be deeply rooted in our center, our core sense of self. As we connect and are grounded in the deepest sense of self, our actions in the world take on a whole new sense of authenticity and presence. Jupiter in opposition to Chiron, then, presents an opportunity for us to create the kind of emotional and spiritual support necessary to step more fully into our power, authority, and mastery.

February 7 Saturn direct Saturn, which has been retrograde in Gemini since September 27, resumes its two-and-a-half-year journey through the sign of Gemini on February 7, and will be there until June 2003. When Saturn, the planet representing form, structure, and consolidation is combined with the sign Gemini, ruled by the planet Mercury, the principle is the constructive dissemination of information. On an individual level, Saturn in Gemini challenges us to learn how to remain grounded in an increasingly complex and information-intensive world. The challenge with Saturn in Gemini, then, is to balance the benefits of new technologies with common sense! As new technologies come into our lives, we have the choice of either being seduced by them or learning how to use them so that we can free up time to devote to our relationships, families, and communities.

February 8 Mercury direct Mercury, which has been retrograde since January 18, goes direct on February 8. Mercury retrogrades help us to get in touch with our vision so that we can clearly articulate what we want. Now that Mercury has gone direct again, we can take our newfound clarity and communicate it with others, thereby causing our thoughts to manifest in external form in the world.

With Mercury direct in Capricorn, it’s time to reevaluate your dreams. Mercury in Capricorn helps us to more clearly articulate our vision so that we can cause it to be manifest in the world. By clearly stating (in written form, too!) what we want in terms of specific, measurable, tangible results, we have a much greater chance of manifesting what we want.

February 10-12 Mars trines Pluto Mars in Aries is in positive relationship with Pluto in Sagittarius for the next couple of days. With the Mars/Pluto combination, we have an opportunity to direct our willpower into projects that bring out our sense of compassion or inspire us to serve others. On the other hand, though, this combination can represent a time when our tolerance for others is at a breaking point! The way to deal with the intense martial energy of this aspect is to find a cause you believe in and take action. This will help shift the energy from frustration to empowerment.

February 11 Venus enters Pisces Venus moves through the sign of Pisces from February 11 through March 8. Venus in Pisces brings awareness of how we can be more accepting of ourselves and others. In other words, no matter what we have done, or have failed to do, we are always loved in the eyes of God/Goddess. Let the unconditional acceptance of Venus in Pisces permeate every cell of your being this month.

February 12 New moon in Aquarius The new moon at 23 degrees Aquarius brings in a new cycle of growth and awareness this month. Relationships, in particular, will be affected by this event, as the moon represents what we need for emotional security. The new moon in Aquarius calls us to learn emotional detachment. The challenge is to be able to detach from our relationship dramas without abandoning our partners. In other words, the challenge is to learn how to maintain your own sense of personal autonomy while being emotionally present to the needs and desires of others.

February 13 Mercury enters Aquarius Mercury moves through the sign of Aquarius from February 13 through March 11. With Mercury in Aquarius this month, the emphasis is on liberating (Uranus) the mind (Mercury). The Aquarian influence helps us to break free from any ways in which our thinking has become crystallized or stagnant. Use Mercury in Aquarius to help open your mind to new possibilities and insights. Be willing to act on any "illuminations" or intuitive insights that you might receive during this period.

February 19 Sun enters Pisces The sun enters the sign of Pisces on February 19. It is in the final stage of nature's cycle during the sign of Pisces that the composting soil is becoming ready for spring planting. The breaking up process that has taken place in Aquarius is taken to its logical conclusion in the complete destruction of form, blending into the whole. The Pisces principle involves surrendering the personal sense of "I" to allow for integration into the whole. Our job when planets are journeying through the sign of Pisces is to learn the value of surrender and to open our consciousness so that we can transcend our perception of separateness.

February 21-24 Mars sextiles Uranus Mars in Aries is in positive relationship with Uranus in Aquarius February 21-24. Since Mars is in the fiery sign of Aries, this is a great time to bring out your warrior spirit. Combining the raring-to-go energy of Mars in Aries with impatient Uranus in Aquarius provides plenty of rocket fuel to kick start you into action. This transit is kind of like drinking a triple latté every day — without the crash!

February 27 Full moon in Virgo With the full moon in Virgo, our awareness is focused on taking care of ourselves on an emotional level. Use this month to find out what your body needs to support your emotional health. Maybe it needs more exercise, better nutrition, or more attention paid to your diet. The full moon in Virgo helps us to tune in to how we can nurture the relationship between body and mind.

Use the positive qualities of Virgo — discernment and discrimination — to put your life and daily routine into increasingly coherent order. By being mindful about how you can make your daily life more streamlined and efficient now, you will be able to fully experience the balance, harmony, and peacefulness brought in by the moon in Libra
