December 2-24 Venus in Sagittarius With Venus in Sagittarius from December 2-24, the focus is on sharing our joy and enthusiasm with others. The root word of enthusiasm is en theo, or "in God," and it is this attribute of divine inspiration represented by the sign of Sagittarius that wants to flow from our hearts at this time of year. Again, the focus is not so much on what we say or believe, or even give to each other in the form of gifts, that counts. What really counts with Venus in Sagittarius is our ability to share our presence our love, energy, and receptivity with others. December 6-8 Venus sextiles Neptune Venus/Neptune heightens our idealism to the maximum. With Venus sextile Neptune, we have the ability to blend our idealism with our desire to serve others in an impersonal way. Review your dreams for yourself and your desire to serve others at this time. What can you do now to begin bringing down your ideals so they can become realized? Quiet your mind and allow your feelings of compassion for others to flow through your heart. You may find yourself inspired to express what you are experiencing and feeling at this time through art, dance, gentle flowing movement, or any activity in which you bypass the rational mind and move into subtler levels of communication. December 8-January 18 Mars in Pisces The question with this transit is: How are we using our power? The opportunity, both personally and collectively, is to see that "our" power is not really our own but a reflection of a collective power that flows through us. The challenge of Mars in Pisces is one of surrender and letting go of the illusion of control. Globally, we could see some military flare-ups as we let go of domination and surrender individual control for the benefit of all. With Mars in Pisces, there is a focus on surrendering our personal will and, with it, the illusion of being in control. Mars in Pisces asks us to open ourselves up to be guided by spirit. Someone gave me a pad of Post-Its recently that sums this theme up perfectly: "If you want to make God laugh, make plans." With Mars in Pisces, the challenge is to "let go and let God." In other words, by surrendering our need to be in control of the outcome of our efforts, we open to the possibility of spirit co-creating with us. By doing so, we acknowledge that we are not alone or separate from divine will. This shift of awareness will help us tune in to this years theme of unity consciousness. December 14 New moon in Sagittarius The new moon in Sagittarius brings in a sense of renewed enthusiasm and spirited adventure. With the moon in Sagittarius, the focus this month is on emotional self-expression, heightened idealism, and nurturing ourselves by embracing our spiritual quest. With the moon in Sagittarius, we have an opportunity to learn what nurtures us spiritually. Moving beyond the love of spiritual knowledge (books, classes, workshops), the moon in Sagittarius invites us to move into our own wisdom by practicing and experiencing the presence of spirit in our lives. December 15-January 2 Mercury in Capricorn Mercury in Capricorn activates our left brain abilities of logical, sequential, and linear thought. With Mercury in Capricorn, your ability to focus on strategy will be enhanced and you will probably find it easier to map out what steps you will need to take to manifest your goals. Or it may be that at this time you will be able to more clearly focus your mind on what your actual goals are. This is a great time to accomplish a lot, particularly if the focus is on writing, speaking, or any form of communication. Its also a great time to physically ground all of the details youve been tracking in your mind by making master lists of what you want to accomplish and then prioritizing the goals on your lists. Mercury in Capricorn helps to manage and structure the contents of your mind so you can plan in detail how you are going to go about accomplishing your goals. Use this time to get linear, logical, and organized! Mercury in Capricorn helps us focus our minds in a systematic way. If attention to details is a problem for you, usually this transit can help out. If making lists of things to do is difficult, get out some large paper and crayons and just brainstorm all the things youve wanted to do. Just getting it out of your brain and onto paper will help you be more objective about what to do next. Mercury in Capricorn helps us to more clearly articulate our vision so that we can cause it to manifest in the world. By clearly stating (in written form, too!) what we want in terms of specific, measurable, tangible results, we have a much greater chance of manifesting what we want. December 21 Sun enters Capricorn The sun goes into the sign of Capricorn on December 21. At the winter solstice, little in nature is left above ground, and all living things have to consolidate and preserve their energies in order to survive the cold of winter. At this time of shorter days and ever-increasing light, the earth patiently endures, waiting for new forms to manifest. The Capricorn principle demonstrates how self-reliance and consolidation of power and authority lead to mastery. Our job in the sign of Capricorn is to be positive role models who demonstrate mastery of accomplishment and right use of power and authority. December 25-January 16 Venus in Capricorn Venus is the planet associated with the heart chakra: what has heart for us, what we are passionate about or what we value. When it is in the sign of Capricorn, we feel the effect of Capricorns ruling planet, Saturn, as well. Saturn represents the principle of manifestation, or our ability to ground ourselves in the physical world. With Venus in Capricorn, we tend to be more pragmatic or realistic about what we can accomplish. This is a great time to look at how we can ground our financial position (Venus) by increasing our assets and streamlining (Saturn) our liabilities. Use Venus in Capricorn to come up with a solid plan for saving money or paying off accumulated debt. Its also a great time to review your spending habits to see if you are "putting your money where your heart is." You might want to take a look at the book Your Money Or Your Life by Joe Dominguez and Vicki Robin for a few good ideas. With Venus in Capricorn, we want to get tangible value out of what we purchase, so look for well-constructed, solid craftsmanship that will really last for a while. Its also a great time to start saving for or investing in whatever we truly value. December 29-31 Mars squares Pluto Mars in Aquarius is in a challenging relationship with Pluto in Sagittarius from December 29-31. These combinations speak to the channeling of tremendous willpower (Pluto) into humanitarian causes (Mars in Aquarius). Hopefully, we will see a tremendous global humanitarian effort benefiting those in need of physical sustenance and emotional support. On a personal level, this is a good time to look at how we can each help out in this area. Is there a particular humanitarian or just cause that speaks to you? Look to the issues where you are feeling outraged or "righteously indignant." This will give you a clue as to where you truly want to make a difference. December 30 Full moon in Cancer This month, the moon is very at home in the sign of Cancer, the symbol of the Great Mother. By tuning into the compassionate embrace of the Mother during this next month, we can more fully know ourselves as her children. As we feel embraced by the divine feminine, we become an instrument for her compassion, unconditional acceptance, and grace to flow through us into all of the many lives we touch. The focus this month is discovering what we need for nurturing and comfort. Most of us are better at nurturing other people than ourselves, so this month is about "nurturing the nurturer." Spend some time by or in the water (preferably hot) this month. Examine your needs for being dependent on others. Is it really hard for you to ask for help? Do you go out of your way to look independent so you dont have to acknowledge you dependence needs? Open yourself to the nurturing influence of "the Mother" this month; you might be surprised at how she is always close to you through a myriad of helpful friends and loved ones!
