By adding the universal year 2001 (2+0+0+1=3) to the 11th month of November, we come up with the vibration of 14/5. The 5 month is a time for synthesizing all of the knowledge and experiences you’ve acquired over the last four months. Look to see what you have been learning and how this information may fit into a larger system of knowledge that you can then disseminate to others. The 5 month also signifies greater participation and possibilities in any media-related business: writing, speaking, teaching, or promotion. It can also represent disruption, chaos, and change, so it is good to do whatever you can to ground and center yourself this month.

November 1-11 Saturn opposite Pluto Saturn in Gemini has been in a challenging relationship with Pluto in Sagittarius since October 20 and is exactly opposite Pluto on November 1. This aspect happens every 35 years and, unfortunately, corresponds with times of economic recession (the Great Depression seventy years ago) and wars (the Vietnam War in the ’60s, World War II in the ’30s). Pluto represents the shadow or powerful collective forces that are unleashed when Saturn can no longer hold them in check.

With this challenging aspect, it is essential that we become aware of our own shadows as individuals, communities, and nations. It is often very difficult to recognize one’s own shadow, and very easy to project it onto others. With Saturn/Pluto in opposition, we have an opportunity to become aware of what has been repressed so that we can bring it into the light of consciousness. As we bring light to our shadows, both individually and collectively, we can expend the energy that has been used for suppression in more positive ways. In some ways, it is like excising a wound so that the infection can get out and healing can begin. It may require, however, that we have to go into the darkness first to prepare for the healing. Bottom line? This is a very intense transit, and it requires that all of us work on owning our projections and bringing our own shadows to light. As we do this, we can truly alter the way external reality manifests.

November 2 Jupiter retrograde Jupiter in Cancer goes retrograde from November 2-March 3, 2002. The Jupiter retrograde, lasting about four months, is a time to tap into your own inner teacher. In Vedic or Hindu astrology, the Sanskrit word used for Jupiter is "guru." Each of us, whether formally or informally, is a teacher of something. The sign and house placement of Jupiter in your chart not only refers to where you get the greatest expansion of your own consciousness (where you teach yourself), but also indicates what you naturally wish to teach others. Since Jupiter also is the ruler of the second chakra, the center of "pro-creation," it is also associated with how you express your creative urge. When I share this perspective with my clients, they often are not aware that they naturally teach others all the time with their Jupiter skills. In a Jupiter retrograde period, we can tune in more deeply to the wisdom that wants to flow through us out into the world.

A powerful way to utilize this Jupiter retrograde is to visualize the ways you are already sharing your wisdom with others. I’ll give you keywords for each of the signs into which Jupiter falls (if you don’t know what sign your Jupiter falls in, look it up in an astrological ephemeris). These keywords, then, represent what you want to learn and what you naturally teach others, either formally or informally: Aries, empowerment; Taurus, embodiment; Gemini, communication; Cancer, assimilation; Leo, expression; Virgo, discernment; Libra, balance; Scorpio, transformation; Sagittarius, inspiration; Capricorn, manifestation; Aquarius, reformation; and Pisces, transcendence.

November 3-6 Mars conjunct Neptune Mars in Aquarius is at the same degree as Neptune in Aquarius from November 3-6. Mars/Neptune aspects speak of aligning personal will (Mars) with divine will (Neptune). These are the penultimate aspects of letting go or surrendering our personal will so that we can be guided by spirit. Mars/Neptune is a clarion call for humanitarian action and compassion. Please join me this Thanksgiving in sending out a global prayer for lasting peace, reconciliation, and compassionate, humanitarian aid for all those that are suffering.

November 7 Mercury enters Scorpio Mercury travels through the sign of Scorpio from November 7-25. Mercury in Scorpio is like the surgeon’s knife, cutting to the core of a problem and excising it. Use Mercury in Scorpio this month to learn to tell the microscopic truth. Even though telling the truth seems hard and painful sometimes, the side effects of not telling the truth are even worse. If we withhold our truth, we also withhold our love, and eventually shut down our ability to be intimate with others. Mercury in Scorpio calls us to bring to the surface and acknowledge what’s bothering us. Sometimes just the simple act of telling the truth can help us release a tremendous amount of energy that has been suppressed and that has been getting in the way of our being intimate with those that we love.

November 8 Venus enters Scorpio Venus is in the sign of Scorpio from November 8-December 1. Venus in Scorpio is a very powerful placement, and calls us to pay attention to the deepest parts of who we are. The reason the sign of Scorpio is so often maligned is that it represents the process of purification of what psychologists call the shadow. These are the powerful emotions that most people find very difficult to deal with: rage and other forms of intense anger, jealously, sexual intensity, and grief. The Scorpio process demands that we dive into the center of this intensity and embrace it as a vital part of our humanness. For many, though, there is a great fear that if they truly embrace their intensity, they will surely die. As a result, many people choose to repress their emotional intensity, their sexuality, and their vitality.

Venus in Scorpio is a call to integrate these "taboo" areas into the heart of who we are. Use this time to access how open you feel to expressing the Scorpio force in your relationships. Are you suppressing your passion or vitality because of restrictive messages you received during childhood? Do you fear that if you were to express the intensity of your emotions you would blow your loved ones away? Venus in Scorpio is a time to be a spelunker of your emotional depths, to explore how you can access and release more aliveness and vitality in your relationships with others.

November 13- 16 Mars trines Saturn Mars in Aquarius is in a positive relationship with Saturn in Gemini from November 13-16. Mars/Saturn is a sign of strong will and the ability to persevere. With Mars/Saturn you can focus your will power and achieve highly productive results. The only challenge with these two planets is to not drive yourself too hard by being overly attached to the outcome of whatever you are trying to accomplish. Try to harness your strong will with non-attachment for best results. Politically, this could manifest as military action that contains or forces restraint.

November 14 New moon in Scorpio A new moon occurs when the sun and moon are in the same sign and signifies the joining of solar and lunar energies. With each new moon, we have an opportunity for a new quality to emerge into our consciousness. With the new moon in Scorpio, the focus this month is on letting go, trusting that it is safe to let go of old ways of being that may have prevented us from deeply sharing ourselves, our vision, and our wisdom more fully with others. With the new moon in Scorpio, we have an opportunity to learn how to speak our truth more fully and to learn how to truly honor the deep passion and intensity of our emotions.

November 15-18 Mars sextiles Pluto Mars in Aquarius is in good aspect with Pluto in Sagittarius from November 15-18. Mars/Pluto aspects signify great power, and with Mars in Aquarius, this symbolizes using our warrior energy in pursuit of humanitarian causes. Sometimes to create true equality we have to raise the sword of truth in order to defend our rights. Globally, we could see some nonviolent protests at this time, particularly around issues of equality, equanimity, and justice. Personally, it is a time to speak out about what you feel is unfair or unbalanced in your relationships. Are you doing more than your share and not saying anything about because you don’t want to rock the boat? Let Mars/Pluto empower you to speak the truth, even though it may not be nice!

November 21 Sun enters Sagittarius The sun enters the sign of Sagittarius on November 21 at 5:19 a.m. After the decay and transformation achieved in Scorpio, the natural world is now teeming with new life; earthworms are breaking down the decayed material and replenishing the soil with new energy. The earth is expanding the simple materials left over into complex nutrients needed for new life. The Sagittarius principle expands the concrete mind (knowledge) by demonstrating how meaning is created through the understanding of diversity (wisdom). Our job during the sign of Sagittarius is to codify our philosophical and religious understanding to become role models and non-dogmatic teachers of universal wisdom.

November 26 Mercury enters Sagittarius Mercury will be in the sign of Sagittarius from November 26 until December 14. With Mercury in Sagittarius, there is a focus on broadening our mental faculties. The Sagittarius energy helps us to tap into our natural wisdom rather than relying on external knowledge. This involves learning to trust our own ability to be in the presence of our wisdom. To really trust your wisdom requires that you allow yourself to be in the moment, to sink into the part of yourself that is the wise old man or wise old woman. Mercury in Sagittarius is calling you to allow higher wisdom to flow through you. It’s a time when you can truly trust your natural way of knowing and share your wisdom with the world.

November 30 Full moon in Gemini The full moon brings to light or awareness what qualities we can focus on this month that will truly nurture us. This month, the moon is full in Gemini on November 30 at 10:40 p.m. The moon in Gemini presents us the opportunity of nurturing ourselves through connecting with others for the purpose of giving and receiving information. It’s a great time to take a class, read up about a subject that broadens your knowledge base, or just get together with friends for stimulating conversation. With the moon in Gemini, the challenge is to expand your personal network of friends and associates so that you can grow intellectually. Oftentimes we forget about our need for intellectual stimulation, so use this full moon to nurture yourself in this area of your life.
