From the Publisher

I believe that we each come into the world with unique talents and abilities, and that we can and should choose to share them with humanity. Our job is to move past our self-imposed limitations, discover our potential, and manifest it. Of course, that’s much easier said than done. For me, it has so far been a half-century "work in progress." I have been able to do some profound things, and I can hardly guess what potential I may be able to manifest in coming years.

It is my intent that The New Times offer you inspiration and how-to information to facilitate your work to discover and manifest your potential. It is also my intent to use these pages to energize businesses that are dedicated to bringing love and healing to our world, something that seems more relevant than ever today.

Throughout my life, I have kept my focus away from national politics, believing that my energy could be better channeled to making a difference at a local level. I have volunteered in both formal and informal capacities — both secular and spiritual — and many times I simply offered an ear to someone who needed to be heard. I have always found that when I take an action, large or small, to help in some way about something I feel is important, my sense of optimism and well-being improves; my glass starts looking more full and less empty.

I also know that when I exude a feeling of optimism and well-being, I attract more of that energy into my life. I smile, and the probability that the world will smile back goes up. When I’m glum, I don’t seem to find as many smiles, and I must admit that there are times when I need to retreat and recharge, so I’m not always running around smiling.

I think the world has hardly been hungrier for our smiles than it is today. Everyone’s focus has shifted, and I think more people than ever are open to messages of love and healing. If you’ve been reading publications like The New Times or spending time with the kind of people who do, then you have relevant information and experiences that need to be shared with many people in your everyday life. I ask you to think of a way that you might cast your light upon the world around you. Your love and healing energy can manifest in spoken and unspoken ways. Humanity needs your unique gifts now more than ever; share them.

The power of prayer is a tool freely available to everyone. I urge you to reenergize your spiritual practice, or, if that’s a neglected area of your life, to explore the many choices that are available today. As for myself, I pray for those whose loved ones have been killed or injured because of senseless violence. I pray for those in leadership positions around the world, so that they may clearly see the root causes of problems and have the courage to implement innovative solutions. I pray that the freedoms that we enjoy will remain strong. I pray that justice will be fairly meted out and that more innocent blood will not be shed. I pray that we will all be able to walk more gently on our planet. I pray for specific people in difficult circumstances, and I express gratitude for my many wonderful relationships and beautiful life experiences.

The power of prayer is multiplied exponentially as like-minded people gather in common purpose. Find ways to connect with like-minded people.

In our cover story, Mary Manin Morrissey uses a board game as an analogy for life: when the game is over, she says, all the pieces go back in the box. One hundred years from now, how will your contribution to this important time be remembered and measured? If you believe in reincarnation, you know that you yourself will be the benefactor of your efforts today. There are many workshops available in these pages, such as the Drunvalo Melchizedek event in November, where you can learn practical ways to aggregate spiritual energy in your life and the world around you.

We need to take action now to promote and preserve our values. Clearly, there are many individuals willing to commit their lives to promoting a twisted, negative philosophy. How committed to your values are you? Join me in thinking of the ways that we can be the answer to the prayers of the world.
