Are you a budding young (or old) healer, aspiring to do miraculous healings à la the Ellen Burstyn character in the movie Resurrection? Reading The Reconnection may allow you to do just that! The only requirement is that you let go of everything you think you know about "doing" healings. There are neither new procedures nor techniques to learn. No teacher is needed to learn it (you can attune to the energy just by reading the book).

You don't need to know what is wrong with, nor what is best for, the client (how could anyone know that for sure, anyway?). Throw out your talismans, rituals, and prayers (these give one a false sense of power). Let go of all goals and expectations (these can be limiting to what can actually transpire). You don't even have to send or direct the energy. All you have to do is receive it, explore it with your hands, and watch its evolution in awe and wonder. It's just you, the energy, and the client. This bare-bones approach to healing is very refreshing!

This way of healing was developed by Dr. Eric Pearl. He had been just an ordinary chiropractor in Los Angeles, trying to make ends meet, when strange things started happening — strange, metaphysical things. His lights and TV started turning themselves on in the middle of the night. The screws holding up his track lighting were loose every morning. But most interestingly of all, several of his patients reported the sudden disappearance of illnesses such as cancer, AIDS-related diseases, and cerebral palsy.

Being a man of science, Dr. Pearl was very skeptical of anything smacking of New Age woo-woo without any scientific basis, but he was experiencing it himself firsthand. It frightened him, but he tried to keep his objectivity and learn as much as possible about what was happening to him. He felt very strange going to consult with psychics and gypsies, and actually having to pay them for their services.

Dr. Pearl spends more that two thirds of the book explaining himself and making sure that the reader understands that there is nothing to understand before becoming a healer. It is mostly interesting, and all done in good humor, although I must admit that I found myself wanting to get to the "good part" — the healing instructions — already! I really appreciated Dr. Pearl’s lack of pretense. He does not pretend to understand the unknown or make up explanations that couldn't possibly do justice to the incredible healings that were taking place.

However, I also perceive him as being rather arrogant. Dozens of psychics, rabbis, church leaders, and gurus helped him along the way, yet he concluded that most (if not all) of them had been useless to him. Also, he lambastes all the healing systems that came before his. He is most certain that his is the ultimate method (or non-method, as he would describe it). It is the kind of healing that has the most to contribute to the energy shift that is currently happening on planet earth.

Despite its sometimes off-putting tone, though, with its lofty promises of being able to perform visible, miraculous healings, and its very simple non-techniques, The Reconnection is undeniably inspiring and fun. I do believe that my energy has shifted as a result of reading it. Anybody want a healing?
