By adding the universal year 2001 (2+0+0+1=3) to the 2nd month of February, we come up with the vibration of 5. The 5 month is a time for synthesizing all of the knowledge and experiences you've acquired over the last four months. Look to see what you have been learning and how this information may fit into a larger system of knowledge that you can then disseminate to others. The 5 month also signifies greater participation and possibilities in any media-related business: writing, speaking, teaching, or promotion.

February 1 Mars in opposition to Saturn Mars in Scorpio is in challenging relationship to Saturn in Taurus from February 1-5. These two planets in opposition suggest serious conflicts of interest or outright power struggles. On a global level, we can expect flare-ups and outbreaks of violence or resistance. This could also show up as resistance by members of congress during the confirmation process of cabinet members nominated by President Bush. On a personal level, this period could be marked by frustration and interpersonal conflict. Try to decide what is worth fighting for, and let go of the rest. On a positive note, Mars/Saturn can give you the strong will to accomplish difficult tasks that you have wanted to complete.

February 2 Venus enters Aries With Venus in Aries from February 2-June 6, take a look at how passion figures into your life. What do you get passionate about? The positive pole of passion is self-actualization, heightened awareness, and being intensely alive. What can you do now that increases your sense of aliveness? Needless to say, this is a great time to renew the passion in your relationships too! With Venus in Aries, it is also time to take constructive action on what you value or are passionate about. Try to be guided by your heart rather than your mind at this time. By tapping into what you are passionate, you also tap into your dharma, that sense of mission or purpose that will give your life increased meaning and joy!

February 2-25 Mercury retrograde Mercury goes retrograde at 0 degrees Pisces on February 2 and won't go direct again until February 25. Mercury retrogrades help us to see, through external events, at what level our Mercury function (or throat chakra) is operating. If our communication skills are lacking in any area, this will be more than apparent when Mercury goes retrograde. Mercury retrograde is a call for greater impeccability in our lives in the areas of speaking, writing, self-expression, and following through on our word.

For example, many people experience Mercury going retrograde as a time when communication breaks down to the point that they won't do or sign anything. The superstition is that Mercury retrograde is a time to "lay low" and hold any business or communications that have to be done until Mercury goes direct again. In other words, for many people there is ample evidence to substantiate that Mercury retrogrades "foul" things up!

I, too, could tell you stories of phone calls not returned, mail not delivered, etc. It can begin to look like Mercury retrogrades do happen to us! The point of Mercury retrogrades, however, is to teach us that adversity often challenges us to internalize our experience, to deepen our understanding of our own nature so that we can achieve mastery in our lives.

February 6 Mercury in Aquarius With Mercury moving back into the sign of Aquarius from February 6-March 17, the emphasis is on liberating (Uranus) the mind (Mercury). The Aquarian influence helps us to break free from any ways in which our thinking has become crystallized or stagnant. Use this Mercury-in-Aquarius period to help open your mind to new possibilities and insights. Be willing to act on any "illuminations" or intuitive insights that you might receive during this period.

February 8 Full moon in Leo This month, the quality that is emerging is our ability to nurture ourselves through becoming aware of the divine child within. The divine child is the source of our creativity, spontaneity, and enthusiasm. Its qualities are mirrored back to us through the love and appreciation we have for the innocence and directness of the external children we meet in our day-to-day lives.

What we love about our external children is the exact qualities inherent in our own divine child. This is a time to relax the inner critic, the overly responsible part of our personalities, so that we can tap into the pure, spontaneous innocence of the child. For many of us, this is not necessarily an easy task, as we may have been overly responsible all our lives, and the part that likes to have fun has been pretty much squashed out of us.

The beauty of contacting that child, though, is that he or she holds the potential of our creative gift to the planet. It is the divine child within us that knows our mission, our unique creative gift to the world. By tapping into that wisdom, we not only express our own personal creativity more fully, but we then release the possibility of contributing our unique legacy to the planet.

Use this month to tap into your sense of wonder and awe, the joy and aliveness that you receive by being totally present and in the moment. Bring a sense of play into your life by being willing to let go of your seriousness and self-consciousness. And remember: no matter how deep your child may be buried among the rubble of responsibility and duty, if you take some time this month to nurture yourself on this level, you may be pleasantly surprised to find a willing child that wants to come out and play!

February 14 Mars enters Sagittarius With Mars in Sagittarius from February 14 through September 8, the focus is on dedicating our energy and passion to our spiritual quest or "crusade." Mars in Sagittarius represents the spiritual warrior, who combines the valor and courage of the warrior with the wisdom, inspiration, and dedication to a cause of the sage. This is a time to rediscover what cause, ideal, or "crusade" you want to put your Mars energy behind. It's also a time of renewed interest in your own spiritual quest. If you have been feeling stagnant, resigned, or apathetic, Mars in Sagittarius can help you get inspired and can help you rekindle the fire of idealism in your life. Going on a pilgrimage to exotic, sacred, or foreign locations is also a way of expressing this inspiring transit.

February 16-21 Mars in opposition to Jupiter Mars in Sagittarius opposes Jupiter in Gemini February 16-21. Mars/Jupiter energy is much more expansive than the Mars/Saturn transit at the beginning of the month. The only danger is that Mars/Jupiter can lead to too much expansion, resulting in a scattering of one's energy. Try to focus on a few things that you are really passionate about at this time. Mars/Jupiter energy is like going on a crusade. If you focus on projects or causes that you really believe in, you can actually accomplish quite a bit during this transit.

February 19 Sun enters Pisces The sun enters the sign of Pisces on February 19. It is in the final stage of nature's cycle during the sign of Pisces that the composting soil is becoming ready for spring planting. The breaking-up process that has taken place in Aquarius is taken to its logical conclusion in the complete destruction of form, which now blends into the whole. The Pisces principle involves surrendering the personal sense of "I" to allow for integration into the whole. Our job when planets are journeying through the sign of Pisces is to learn the value of surrender and to open our consciousness so that we can transcend our perception of separateness.

February 23 New moon in Pisces The new moon in Pisces completes the moon's voyage around the zodiac. In the final stage of nature's cycle, as many of you gardeners know, the soil is being broken up or composted to be made ready for spring planting. With the new moon in Pisces, we have an opportunity to surrender to this process by letting go emotionally. Going with the flow, immersing yourself spiritually, and finding positive outlets for your compassion for others are all ways of tuning in to this moon cycle.
