Succeeding in Relationships: Books for Empowering Love by Steve McCardell With the holiday season drawing near for a number of spiritual traditions, one hopes there is a greater focus on love. Of course, how many forms that can take! Friends, family, and intimate relationships each has different meaning for growth, and each deserves its time of reflection in the winter of human cycles. Praying for happiness and balance in our worlds intimate relationships, though, I would take a look at the books in hand empowering success in this personal realm.
ALL MY RELATIONS A Prayer by L. T. SPARROW L. T. Sparrow Publishing $16.95 (hardcover) reviewed by Steve McCardell Regardless of ones faith or spiritual approach, the idea of Thanksgiving is not a bad one. In fact, any tradition has its many ways of giving thanks, and Thanksgiving only has us amplify that effort. In All My Relations, L. T. Sparrow gives her thanks by expressing an ideal, and asks that we bring this ideal into our lives.
She calls, in short, for that ideal of unity, seeing all peoples and the world around us as a family of equals. She expresses her prayer through poem and picture, an outpouring of real feeling, as she asks the whole world to join hands. She asks us to look at whats most distant, and at what is closest by; at our past, our present, our future; at all animals, at all plants, and in the end, to embrace every one.
MUSIC: Year-End Roundup reviewed by David A. Young ISince next month we will, as we do every December, turn our attention to new seasonal music, I wanted to make sure that three favorites from the past couple of months that still havent been reviewed in these pages at least got honorable mention before 2001 rolls around. My hope is that they wont get short shrift in the process, and that you will give my endorsements here the same weight as if theyd been wordier, as there is some exceptional music in these grooves.
