From the Publisher

by Deverick Martin

I naturally gravitate to my seemingly endless to-do list. There's a deadline every week in this business, and I spend a lot of time dealing with people who are scrambling to meet them. It's easy to get caught up in that frenetic energy. In my job of problem solving and pulling together all of the disparate parts that make up each issue, my attention is usually focused on what it yet to be done rather than the good work that I've already done.

From an intellectual perspective, I know that it is always a good time to reflect on the bounties of my life, but somehow, holding the energy of gratitude is hard for me to keep in my routine.

As someone who appreciates Gregg Braden's work, I believe that taking time to prayerfully hold the energy for what I want, as if I had it, can be an important tool for manifestation. Likewise, holding the energy of gratitude for what has already been given me helps me to feel at a deep level that my life energy is being expended in a meaningful way.

What comes to mind first for me is simple gratitude for life itself: for a healthy body, for many loving relationships, for immensely rewarding work, and for challenges that have given me an opportunity to grow. Next on my list is the hardworking, dedicated staff here at The New Times, who freely pour ample amounts of their life energy into the long hours of work that are required to produce each issue of The New Times. David, Sheila, and Steve, thank you from the deepest levels of my being. It wouldn't happen without you! I certainly experienced anxiety earlier this year with many uncertainties related to staff changes and availability. I feel blessed that each potential problem unfolded into great outcomes.

Our advertisers provide the financial resources to underwrite our work. Without them, we could not produce our publication. Among the aspects of my work that I most enjoy are the times that I've been able to make a special connection with our advertisers. Generally, these are people who are dedicating their life work to facilitate positive change, often one individual at a time. I work with that group of people to build win-win energy exchanges, and I find it very energizing to spend time with so many remarkable people. I am grateful for your support. I am grateful for our connection.

In my first days as publisher, I wondered if the many contributing writers whose insight and inspiring messages had filled our pages would continue to support The New Times in that way under my leadership. Many thanks to our writers, who have provided and continue to provide an abundance of articles for me and for our readers.

I feel a very special relationship with our subscribers. There is a finite amount of money that I can spend to give away free papers. Each subscription in essence allows me to put a free copy of The New Times into the hands of a first-time reader, someone whose life is likely to be changed in a positive way as result of reading an article or attending an event. Our subscribers also demonstrate a commitment to supporting our work and show a desire to see every issue. Thanks for believing in me, and thanks for your loyalty.

I still face many challenges in this work, but for now I'll choose to bask in gratitude for so many successful outcomes.
