On rare occasions throughout history, authentic spiritual masters appear who are so intimately familiar with the inner spiritual journey they can describe it in a completely fresh way. This process, uniquely tailored to fit the prevailing cultural circumstances, continually renews the ancient teachings of the path to higher consciousness that exists within each of us.

This unusual quality can be recognized in this book, which deals very directly and frankly with the deepest questions I’ve struggled with since childhood. Why was I born into this body and this time in history rather than some other? What is my purpose in life? Where is the truth to be found, and who can be trusted to point the way? What is really meant by words such as soul, consciousness, and God? Is there a common underlying spiritual truth from which the many religions and philosophies emerged? If so, how can I find and verify it in my own individual experience?

The book’s opening chapters strongly emphasize the individual nature of the spiritual journey. Each life is unique, and our own personally tailored, karmic tendencies guide us through the vast array of possibilities available in this lifetime. Like most of us, I’ve looked outward into the world for fulfillment — through relationships, marriage, family, study, work, travel, recreation, etc. — but spiritual masters throughout history direct us inward. To emphasize this, Sri Gary Olsen introduced the name MasterPath, signifying that the spiritual Path is indelibly imprinted within each individual and leads ultimately to realization of our true identity as soul, the eventual Master.

Before reading this book, I had little idea of what to expect on this inward journey, or even how to begin. I’ve had a few extraordinary experiences and brief moments of unexpected mental clarity that showed me clearly there is more to life than just what’s seen physically or what’s learned from studying science, philosophy, and various religions. These experiences inspired within me a sense of awe and mystery, which intensified my desire to understand more fully.

To fill the need for deeper understanding, this book provides a "detailed road map of the spiritual journey through the many planes of God’s Creation (which) reveals the exquisite and unquestionable handiwork of the Supreme Deity." It describes what is meant by the Biblical phrase, "In my Father’s house are many mansions," referring to the human body, which contains "twelve splendid stories in which one lives, moves, and has one’s being."

The first six of these regions correspond with the six chakras of the physical body. The six higher regions correspond with subtle, spiritual energy centers that become accessible by moving the attention beyond the reach of the body consciousness and awakening spiritual consciousness. Descriptions of all six of these higher inner regions are rarely found, and the detail given in this book is unparalleled both in scope and inspiration.

For further investigation, a number of guidelines are offered, including a beginning spiritual exercise that assists in withdrawing the attention from outer concerns and directing it inward. I felt the writing to be infused with immense beauty and power, demonstrating the love and wisdom that reside deep within each of us. A many-layered book that has offered me new insights on each reading, I believe MasterPath to be a useful guide for those sincerely interested in esoteric spirituality.
