September 7 Mercury enters Libra With Mercury in Libra from September 7-28, the emphasis is on coming into balance through pulling on our mental qualities of objectivity and equality. Although the sign of Libra is often depicted as somewhat wishy-washy, the truth is that Libran energy can be quite strong. Mercury in Libra, in particular, is the champion of justice, and can be quite bold and outspoken when things become unjust. While Mercury is in Libra, we become the adjudicators or arbitrators of justice in our lives, speaking out against any injustice that is pulling us out of balance. This is particularly relevant to personal relationships. Have you gotten out of balance by being overly centered on someone elses needs to the extent that you have lost track of what you need for yourself? Do you find that you are giving to others way more than you are receiving? If so, you can use this time to work on creating more egalitarian and just relationships in your life. With Mercury in Libra, the challenge is to look at our addiction to being nice, to the way we accommodate the needs of others to the point that we lose ourselves. We have an opportunity now to step back and be more objective and detached about what needs to be communicated. The focus now is on communicating what is just, fair, and equitable. With Mercury in Libra, we have the opportunity to speak the truth without fear of what others will think of us. September 12 Saturn retrograde Saturn, at 0 degrees Gemini, goes retrograde from September 12 until January 24, 2001. Basically, this transit is about taking the time to figure out your game plan for the next year. Saturns 2½-year transit through Taurus signified a time when we worked on solidifying our lives and creating a structure for the accomplishment of our long-term goals. During Saturns retrograde, try to get in touch with the specific, measurable results that would have to produced in order for you to know that you have reached your goals. This is a time to recommit ourselves to "walking our talk," to be truly accountable for our actions, and to take a stand for what we want to manifest. September 13 Full moon in Pisces On September 13, we have a full moon in Pisces at 12:37 a.m. The full moon in Pisces asks us to tune in to our desire to merge with Spirit. The full moon in Pisces is calling us to bring full awareness to the path of surrendering our sense of separation so that we can once again experience the bliss of unity consciousness. Use this full moon to nurture yourself spiritually through contemplation, meditation, flowing movement, and music. September 16-19 Mars squares Saturn Mars in Leo will be in a challenging relationship with Saturn in Gemini from September 16-19. Mars is the planet representing the assertion of personal will, while Saturn represents the discipline required to bring things into form. The good news is that this transit is an opportunity to concentrate our willpower and accomplish a lot. The bad news is that Mars/Saturn squares can bring up frustration or the feeling that our actions are being blocked. A powerful way to use this transit is to see how we are blocking ourselves from moving forward rather than blaming the obvious external forces that appear to be in our way. By owning our projections that someone or something other than ourselves is blocking us, we can take action on our goals with marked determination and will. September 16 Mars enters Virgo Mars will be in the sign of Virgo from September 16 through November 4. With Mars in Virgo, we have an opportunity to take care of the details of our lives. Since Mars represents where we assert our will, in Virgo we focus our will on taking care of our daily routines. Where can we be more efficient in our lives? How can we be more organized and attend to the details of our lives? By making our lives more streamlined at this time, we can free up more energy to be of service to others. For many of us, the daily routines of our lives become so bogged down that we find that we never have time to do the things that really make a difference. With Mars in Virgo, we can streamline, prioritize, and organize our lives so that we can have the time to dedicate our energies to whats really important. September 22 Sun enters Libra The sun moves into Libra on September 22, the day of the autumnal equinox. The autumnal equinox marks the beginning of fall, which initiates a new balance in nature. The falling of leaves begins the formation of fresh humus that will eventually replenish the soil depleted by the year's growth. The Libra principle is associated with balance, equanimity, justice, and mediation. Our job in the sign of Libra is to be peacemakers, to promote a social consciousness that is just to all and to reflect and mirror to others the balance and beauty, the light and dark, of relationship. September 24 Venus enters Scorpio Venus moves through the sign of Scorpio from September 24 through October 19. Venus in Scorpio is a very powerful placement, and calls us to pay attention to the deepest parts of who we are. The reason the sign of Scorpio is so often maligned is that it represents the process of purification of what psychologists call the shadow, the powerful emotions that most people find very difficult to deal with: rage and other forms of intense anger, jealously, sexual intensity, and grief. The Scorpio process demands that we dive into the center of this intensity and embrace it as a vital part of our humanness. For many, though, there is great fear that if they truly embrace their intensity they will surely die. As a result, many people choose to repress their emotional intensity, their sexuality, and their vitality. Venus in Scorpio is a call to integrate these "taboo" areas into the heart of who we are. Use this time to access how open you feel to expressing the Scorpio force in your relationships. Are you suppressing your passion or vitality because of restrictive messages you received during childhood? Do you fear that if you were to express the intensity of your emotions you would blow your loved ones away? Venus in Scorpio is a time to be a spelunker of your emotional depths, to explore how you can access and release more aliveness and vitality in your relationships with others. September 27 New moon in Libra On September 27 at 4:22 a.m., we begin a new moon cycle at 5 degrees Libra. With the new moon in Libra, the focus this month is on nurturing ourselves by finding ways in which we can come into harmony with our inner selves. With the new moon in Libra, we have an opportunity to learn how we can come into balance through diet, creating balance between our work and play, and through balancing our needs for independence and autonomy with our need for intimate relationships with others. September 28 Mercury enters Scorpio Mercury will be in the sign of Scorpio from September 28 through December 3. Mercury in Scorpio is like the surgeons knife, cutting to the core of a problem and excising it. Use Mercury in Scorpio these next two months to learn to tell the microscopic truth. Even though telling the truth seems hard and painful sometimes, the side effects of not telling the truth are even worse. If we withhold our truth, we also withhold our love, and eventually shut down our ability to be intimate with others. Mercury in Scorpio calls us to bring to the surface and acknowledge whats bothering us. Sometimes just the simple act of telling the truth can help us release a tremendous amount of energy that has been suppressed and that has been getting in the way of us being intimate with those that we love. September 29 Jupiter retrograde Jupiter in Gemini will be on its retrograde journey from September 29 until January 25, 2001. The Jupiter retrograde, lasting about four months, is a time to tap into our own inner teacher. In Vedic or Hindu astrology, the Sanskrit word used for Jupiter is "guru." Each of us, whether formally or informally, is a teacher of something. The sign and house placement of Jupiter in your chart not only refers to where you get the greatest expansion of your own consciousness (where you teach yourself) but also indicates what you naturally wish to teach others. Since Jupiter also is the ruler of the second chakra, the center of "pro-creation," it is also associated with how you express your creative urge. In a Jupiter retrograde period, we can tune in more deeply to the wisdom and creativity that wants to flow through us out into the world. A powerful way to utilize this Jupiter retrograde is to visualize the ways you are already sharing your wisdom with others.
